Salman Khan has done something different. For his latest film, 'Jai Ho' he has retained the distribution rights in not one but three circuits.
When you are sure about your product, you try to retain a certain share of the earnings for yourself. This has been a trend in the industry for long. Earlier it used to be keeping the overseas rights of a movie or getting a share in the film. But, Salman Khan has done things differently and succeeded and that has pushed him further onward.
According to a source related to the project, “Salim Khan who is also into distribution business, decided to keep three circuits of the film, while the film has been sold to Eros International for an astronomical price. The circuits are Central Province, Central India and Rajasthan.”
Not many are aware that reportedly this humongous figure of Rs 110 crore at which Eros has bought the film does not include satellite rights, a segment that forms the second highest stream of revenue for the industry. Khan had earlier already signed a deal of Rs 500 crore with Star for satellite rights of all his movies.
Now that Bigg Boss 7 is over, Salman Khan is gearing up to promote his upcoming film Jai Ho. Though the Dabangg Khan was plugging it on BB7, he was not doing the rounds of other TV shows. However, that’s changing now and Salman will soon be seen on Nach Baliye 6. The superstar is slated to shoot for the promo tomorrow. A source says that besides trying to get him to dance on the show, the channel also wants him to host a small segment. “They are currently in talks with him,” adds the source. It remains to be seen whether Salman will agree considering he was hosting Bigg Boss.
Interestingly, when Madhuri Dixit wanted to promote Dedh Ishqiya on NB6, the channel apparently was not keen, because she is the face of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, a show on rival channel Colors. Isn’t Salman also hosting a show on the same channel? “Yes, but he has a Rs 500-crore deal with the Star Network for his films,” explains the source.
Jai Ho is an upcoming Bollywood action Drama film starring Salman Khan and Tabu in lead roles. It is a remake of Telugu film Stalin starring Chiranjeevi in the lead role. The film is directed by Sohail Khan under the Sohail Khan Production franchise. The film is set to release on 24 January 2014.
In late 2012, Sohail Khan announced his intention to remake the Telugu film Stalin. Renaming it Mental, Sohail began to put the project into action. Shooting started on 27 February 2013 but was then postponed from February to March. Shooting began in late March 2013. The project was re-titled to Jai Ho. While there were rumors that the film would release in 3D formats, Sohail Khan said, "First, let me complete my film in the normal format. Then I'll take a call".The first poster was unveiled by Salman Khan on 6 December 2013. It consists of a digitally merged image of thousands of fans rendering a portrait of Khan and was created by his fans.
